Vyjayanthimala, a former Indian actress, dancer, and parliamentarian, was born on 13 August 1936 in Triplicane, Madras Presidency, British India (present-day Thiruvallikeni, Tamil Nadu, India). With a career spanning over two decades, she has received several accolades, including two BFJA Awards and five Filmfare Awards. Vyjayanthimala began her acting career at the age of thirteen with the Tamil film Vaazhkai (1949), followed by her role in the Telugu film Jeevitham (1950).

Vyjayanthimala made her debut in Hindi cinema with the social guidance film Bahar (1951), which she headlined. She achieved her breakthrough with the romantic film Nagin (1954), which cemented her status as a leading lady in the Indian film industry. About Vyjayanthimala

For her outstanding talent, she was honored with Padmashri, Sangeet Natak Akademi Award, Kalaimamani and so on. She was also appreciated with the Lifetime Achievement Award. She is also the Member of Parliament Rajya Sabha. She supports Bharatiya Janata Party. Earlier, she was the Member of Parliament Lok Sabha. For the 48th National Film Awards, she was the chairperson.

Besides acting, Vyjayanthimala is also an accomplished Indian classical dancer, Carnatic singer, and politician. Her husband was Chamanlal Bali, whom she married in 1968, and has a son named Suchindra Bali. Vyjayanthimala retired from acting in 1970.

In the period drama film Devdas (1955), Vyjayanthimala played the role of Chandramukhi, a Tawaif known for her benevolent nature, and earned critical acclaim for her performance. Her acting and the film were highly praised, and Devdas is considered to be one of her best works. For her role in the movie, she was honored with the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actress.
